Adding
Stamps to Your Collection Database
In order to start working with Stamp Keeper,
you will need to add stamps to your empty collection file. There
are two tools you can use to enter your collection. A continuous
series of stamps can be entered with the Group Add feature.
Or, you can enter single or duplicate stamps by clicking on the
Add button on the bottom of the Collection Entry window.
Scott Catalog Numbers
When you click Add, the program
highlights the SC. Cat# field. If you enter a valid Scott
Catalog number in this field, the Collection Entry window will display
the denomination, year of issue, description, and nine different
market values based on stamp and gum conditions.
Miscellaneous
Stamps
If the catalog number you enter does not
correspond to a valid catalog number contained in our database (i.e.
Revenues, Christmas Seals, etc.), you will be required to enter
all the pertinent information manually.
Type
The Type field contains a pop-up list
of types of postal items. The Total Value field will automatically
calculate the value of your item when you choose Mint Single
or Used Single (Mint Tab and Used Tab are also valid for
Israel.)
Quantity
After entering the type, press <Tab>
to move to the Quantity field. You can either press <Tab>
again to select the default quantity of 1 or manually enter a quantity.
You can also use the up or down arrows to enter any number up to
999 for duplicate stamps. Keep in mind that all stamps included
in this record should have the same condition and original cost.
Gum Condition
After entering the quantity, press <Tab>
or <Enter>. Click the down arrow next to the Gum Condition
field box to select the gum condition.
NOTE: We
urge all users of this program to use good judgment in their response,
since the overall calculated value of the collection is based on
this information.
Stamp Condition
After entering the gum condition, press
<Tab> or <Enter>. Click the down arrow next to the Stamp
Condition field box Remember, the overall value of your collection
is based on this important information.
Year Purchased
The current year appears in the next entry
field as the default entry. You may enter any other purchase year
that you wish for record keeping purposes.
Total Cost
Enter the amount you paid for the full quantity
of stamps in this record. Any figure up to $99,999.99 is accepted.
For example, if you bought two of the same stamp for $5.00 each,
enter $10.00 as the Total Cost.
Total Value
If you entered valid stamp and gum conditions,
the Total Value is calculated automatically (multiplied by
the quantity you entered) and displayed. If you do not agree with
Stamp Keeper's listed price, you may, at any time, enter a figure
different from that shown. Type in your own value (up to $99,999.99)
or press <Tab> to accept the program's supplied value.
Location
Use the Location field to indicate where
this particular stamp is stored. You may enter any code up to 10
characters if you wish. For example, US2 could stand for United
States Album #2.
Comment
The Comment field provides space for
an optional unlimited length entry. Either a short note such as
"good color" or a longer statement can be entered.
Completing Your Entry
Information about a stamp you have sold
can be entered now or later. Click the
Save button at any time while adding information in order
to record that item. You can always change or delete any record
that you have entered.
